Village Baxter Residents Committee

Description: This is the official Resident Committee recognised under the Retirement Villages Act that liaise with Management about Service Fee expenditure and life in the Village.

How to join: The VBRC is elected annually with nominations called for at the Annual General Meeting of Residents each September.

How to get information / updates / minutes: Action items from the Minutes are published monthly in the Village Voice Newsletter, a member of the VBRC provides an update and answers questions at the monthly Resident Meetings. A member of VBRC is also available after the monthly meetings. A list of current members and their contact details is available on Resident noticeboards

Residents Association

Description: This is group of Residents who liaise with other Resident groups and clubs to arrange social events in the Village and morning teas every second Saturday in Parkside. The RA also convene the monthly Resident Meetings.

How to get information / updates / minutes: Minutes are published monthly on Resident Community Centre noticeboards, a member of the RA convenes the monthly Resident Meetings.

Resident Clubs, Groups and Activities

  • A monthly book group for Residents. Enjoy Reading ? Like Sharing your Thoughts ? The Baxter Bookworms are a small group meeting monthly with a new Book each time. You choose from a wide book selection. We meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 3pm to 4.30pm in Parkside

  • The Club offers a year round range of activities in excellent facilities and surrounds for the enjoyment of “Villagers”. These include: Introductory offer: New ‘Villagers” get 12 months membership FREE” Outdoor lawn bowls – 12 months of the year. (Subject to weather). .A first class artificial green. Midweek Pennant Bowls in season. Social Bowls all year round. Healthy Heart Bowls day in conjunction with the Peninsula Private Hospital. Bowls coaching for beginners & those with correctional issues. A limited array of outdoor loan bowls are available for new bowlers. Indoor Bowls with bowls provided by the club. A variety of Social Activities. We are a small active club with a reputation for conviviality and friendliness and we welcome new members with open arms.

  • We play 500 on Saturdays at 1pm to 4:30pm in the Craft Room at Clarke Centre. At 2:30pm we have coffee and biscuits. Everyone welcome

  • The Chaplaincy Support Group raises funds to support the Chaplains employment through the Shed / Op. Shop, seminars and pleasant Sunday Afternoon programs. Come along on the 1st Wednesday of each month to Parkside Centre at 2.pm. All welcome. A committee is elected once a year at the AGM.

  • The Village Shop, known as the Clarke Kiosk is located in the Clarke Centre Foyer. Its open Monday to Friday 9:30 to 11:30am and is staffed by volunteers from the Village Community. The Kiosk sells canned and dry goods, dairy and freezer items, cold drinks, ice cream, eggs, bread, milk, cards and wraps, plus fresh vegetables supplied from the Village Vegetable gardens. Come along and say hello.

  • C.L.E.O “Come Lets Enjoy Ourselves” is one of our most popular social groups. CLEO meets on the 5th of each month 5pm at the Clarke centre. BYO drinks and nibbles and enjoy a great evening.

  • A fun, friendly environment for Villagers new to computers, or regular users wishing to update their knowledge and skills or techniques or just get some computing tips or even solve a query or problem….. this Group is for you. The group runs two sessions per month on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month in Parkside .

    Session 1 on the 2nd Tuesday of the month is by appointment for either Apple or Windows units and is for a one on one type consult on your device. These sessions usually run between 1pm and 3pm.

    Session 2 on the 4th Tuesday of the month is for all and is split between Apple Users in the main Parkside Hall and the Windows Users in the Parkside Computer Room. These Sessions run from 2pm to 4.30pm with a break for afternoon tea and a chat.

    Other electronic device user sessions are by request. You can also access “sessions” by arrangement using “ZOOM”

    Membership fees are $20.00 per unit per annum with an additional $5.00pa if two people from the same unit wish to join. These fees cover Club membership and access to the internet in all the Community Centres.

  • The Village Baxter Croquet Club plays on Saturday mornings at the Croquet green next to Manning Centre. No experience is necessary, come along and try the game - you will be made welcome.

  • The Maj Jong Group meet twice monthly. On the first Thursday of each month at Parkside 12 noon to 5pm. Cost 30 cents BYO lunch. And also on the third Sunday each month at Parkside 1pm to 5pm Cost 20 cents to cover afternoon tea. Anyone interested come to Parkside on one of the above dates.

  • The Men’s Brunch group meet at Parkside at 9.30am on the 3rd Tuesday of every month This is a great morning for men living in the Village where they can gather together and enjoy a delicious egg and bacon sandwich with coffee, tea, and great conversation. Please RSVP for catering purposes. See noticeboards for details

  • The mudpuddlers group do pottery and hand-building with clay on Thursdays in the Village Pottery Room located near the Day Centre. No experience is necessary, just come along and join in. $3 half day, $6 all day.

  • Social gettogether with singing and afternoon tea every second Sunday afternoon in Clarke Centre

  • The social group meet weekly at a local Cafe and formed expressly for the purpose of coffee and conversation with other Residents who are living alone. Please see Village Voice for dates and Cafe locations.

  • Social Snooker in Robinsons Centre on Thursday afternoons 2 to 4pm.

  • The Veggie Group is a group of likeminded people who enjoy growing their own fruit and vegetables. Each person has their own garden bed at no cost. The Group also supplies the Clarke Kiosk with fresh vegetables each week. Contact the Veggie Garden Manager through your Receptionist, garden beds are allocated depending on availability.
